Penoplex General Information

The second name of the material is extruded polystyrene foam. Get it by foaming the foam and forcing it through an extruder. When gas evaporates from the finished mass, there will remain many small, evenly spaced voids. The result is a light and durable material, 95% composed of air. A package of eight 100 mm plates weighs about 15 kg.

There are several varieties of penoplex. Moreover, the name of the material directly indicates the area of ​​its application. To insulate concrete and brick walls, Penoplex Wall is taken. Note that for a slab of 100 mm thick, the heat capacity is the same as that of a half-and-a-half brick. Penoplex is also resistant to alkalis and acids, so it can be plastered and painted with water-based solutions.

First you need to scrape the old paint off the wall, wallpaper, putty – everything that does not hold well. If the old coating is firmly bonded to the surface and does not lose strength, it can be left. Align all the hillocks and valleys with a putty, otherwise the plates will not stick well and then they will break on pressing. The permissible error is no more than 1.5 cm per linear meter.

Helpful advice! If there is an internal insulation of the walls of the penoplex, technology process requires the impregnation of surfaces with antifungal agent of deep penetration. If the sheets are sewn outside, then the bottom of the wall is treated with a fungicide, where moss builds up from dampness.

Plastered walls must be primed. All metal structures, which will be covered with insulation, painted or coated with an anti-corrosion compound.   • the presence of toluene is unacceptable in the foam composition. This substance destroys both penoplex and human health;
  • if the area of ​​insulation is large, then it is better to use professional foam, and to it – a mounting gun;
  • one-component polyurethane foam will give the best grip.

This method is also good because you can replace all the irregularities and gaps that are inevitable when cutting the plates. The joints are closed with ordinary tape. The only negative is that the price of foam will increase the cost of insulation many times over.

Much cheaper will cost dry adhesive mixtures. They are divided into groups by the type of binder component:

  • cement or gypsum (mineral) – Ceresite, Sarmat, Teplokley;
  • polyurethane – Titanium for penoplex, Isomelfi;
  • waterproofing – bitumen mastic, Uniflex;
  • on mixed polymers – Emfikol, Moment.

The mixture is packaged in bags of 5-50 kg. A ten-kilogram bag is enough to cover 10-15 square meters. m wall, depending on the composition of the adhesive.

Attention! Unprocessed glue should not be diluted and stirred again, as well as added to the fresh batch. Its properties are irretrievably lost.

Sometimes a profile frame is installed on the outer walls before sticking the plates. This is justified if in the future it will be attached to the material for finishing (drywall, siding, raised beam, block house). The crate is usually made of aluminum elements.

Plates begin to glue from the bottom, the most lit corner. At the ends of the sheets there are grooves for hermetic fastening. Before spreading the glue, it is necessary to check whether the lock coincides with the groove of the previous sheet. The ends of the cut fragments are customized as accurately as possible.

We coat the plate around the perimeter with glue, add a few thick strokes in the middle. If according to the instructions, it is recommended to hold the mixture until light setting, then this should be done.

We press the penoplex to the wall with rotational movements, distributing the adhesive composition. We hold seconds 20-30. Remove excess glue.

Helpful advice! The accuracy of the installation of each plate is checked by the building level. The gaps in the joints and occasional defects can be immediately glued with scraps of the penoplex, adjusting them in size.

Sheets of insulation should be laid with bandaging (in a checkerboard pattern).

We will need and incomplete plates. In difficult places (between openings, near power outlets) we apply a whole sheet to the wall. Pencil mark the line cutting. Penoplex is cut by a hacksaw with a small tooth.

In the openings we glue the insulation with an overlap on the edge of the slope. Having closed the slopes with fitted fragments, carefully cut off the excess of the penoplex. To the door and window frames fasten the profile of the junction and sticking penoplex close.

Seizure of the glue is a few days. Making sure that the penoplex keeps well on the wall, we strengthen the insulation of the heater with disc nails (umbrellas). It is better to take plastic nails and dowels. They are cheaper than metal and do not conduct cold.

The length of the fungi is calculated as follows. We add 1 cm of glue and 4-5 cm of wall to the thickness of the penoplex. For example, for a plate of 50 mm you need to take a nail with a length of 11 cm.

Punch through the holes in the corners and in the middle of each sheet. In the corners we drill in such a way that the nail head captures the edges of the adjacent slab. The depth of the nest should exceed the length of the umbrella by 2 cm.

We put plastic dowels into the finished holes, knock them out, then hammer in nails.

If in the process of fastening joints are formed, fill them with foam.

After wall insulation with foam plastics, construction technology provides surface reinforcement. This is necessary to strengthen the insulating layer, as well as for better adhesion of the plaster with the insulation. The order of work is as follows:

  • we cut the glass cloth (can be metal) mesh into fragments of 1 sq. m. m;
  • we apply a layer of glue 2-3 mm thick on the insulation section;
  • we impose a grid and we level the gluing structure, drowning it. If there is little glue, add until the mesh is completely hidden under it. The edges of fiberglass for several centimeters are left unglued;
  • We coat the next section, using a spatula on the edges of the previous one. Fasten a new piece of the grid, laying the joints overlap. After the solution has set, the joints will not be visible.

As soon as the reinforcing layer dries, it needs to be rubbed with a float with an abrasive. Then two or three leveling layers of the adhesive mixture are applied, each of which is dried for 24 hours. A dry surface can be primed and plastered.

Finally. The result of covering the walls of the penoplex is immediately noticeable. The housing becomes warm and dry, reduced heating costs. If the floor, the roof and the foundation are additionally warmed by the penoplex, the house will be truly energy efficient.
