An effective way to insulate a house is to install a penoplex under a floor screed. This material is ideal for such work, as it is quite durable and dense. Since the plates of this modern heater are ideally even, they can be used to make a screed, both in the classical way using cement-sand mortar and using self-leveling self-leveling floors.
Laying penoplex under the floor screed in the classic way
There are several foundations of the floor, which can be insulated with foam plaster. There is no significant difference on what the plates of insulation are stacked on. The main point here is the need for waterproofing devices under the penoplex. This applies to any type of substrate. The plates themselves can be laid without fastening or attached with glue or special screws with plastic washers. The joints between the plates are glued, sealed with foam or insulated with adhesive tape.
In any case, under the floor screed, the penoplex should be even, dense, and covered with vapor barrier film. This rule applies to any way to create a heated floor. A classic concrete screed is a leveled and cured mixture of cement, sand and plasticizers. The larger the cement grade, the stronger the tie will be. Most often for these purposes they use portland cement M400. In order for the screed to turn out to be even, certain rules must be followed. It is best to work together. One person kneads the solution, and the second performs the basic steps.
Then, when a vapor barrier membrane is laid on the plates of the foam plastic, it is necessary to take care of the contact points of the concrete and the lower part of the walls around the perimeter of the room. They must be isolated. To do this, take a strip of polyethylene foam and stack it along the walls with an overlap on them in the form of a corner. Polyethylene should be higher than the planned thickness of the screed. As a rule, take 12 – 15 cm.

When the insulation, vapor barrier and waterproofing the bottom of the walls are fully prepared, you can proceed to the main work. The solution is kneaded in a bucket or other convenient container. After the concrete has completely hardened, you can proceed to the installation of a finishing floor covering. It can be absolutely anything: parquet, laminate, linoleum, or even an ultramodern self-leveling 3D floor.
To take a closer look at this case, let’s take an example with a concrete base. If the apartment is not located on the first floor of the building, then the thickness of the insulation may be less than 5 cm. This is quite enough. Before starting the main work on laying the penoplex under the floor screed, the old coating is completely dismantled. If there was a cement screed, then remove it with a punch.
