Quite an interesting and economical option is considered interior trim imitation timber. The photos presented in this article demonstrate the beauty and richness of the interiors in the Russian style, which is very popular in our country. The material used in such wall cladding indoors is environmentally friendly and durable. With it, you can create a cozy, warm atmosphere in the home, imitating the finish of this wooden beam.
Imitation timber: the pros and cons
Such material is considered one of the subgroups of eurolining. Coniferous or hardwood trees are used for its production. It has a number of quality advantages:
- does not shrink due to grooves;
- the lining process is easy and does not require any special skills;
- does not change color when exposed to sunlight;
- low cost;
- resistance to temperature extremes.
Practically for any room fit interior imitation timber. Photos of rooms, lined by design project is the main confirmation of this. This material has practically no downsides. They can occur only in case of violation of the manufacturing process by unscrupulous manufacturers. Poor quality panels quickly crack. To avoid problems in the future, you must carefully consider the choice of products made of wood.
Imitation of a bar allows to make finishing of rooms in short terms. Each version of the panels differs in length, width, material production.

A selection of colors for wall finishing is almost the first place among the criteria by which imitation is chosen. Each tree species has its own unique structure and shade. So, for example, plates of pine imitation can be sand-colored, but there are also soft pink shades with a touch of yellowness. These colors are ideal for use in general purpose rooms: living rooms, dining rooms, hallways.
Cedar imitation is considered the darkest. Cedar is one of the rocks that, in addition to a successful shade and beautiful texture, also has antibacterial properties. Cedar panels have a delicate pleasant smell, but still you should not use them in bedrooms, this can lead to frequent headaches. Quite effectively and richly looks like a similar version of the interior imitation timber. Photos of the interiors show all the beauty and nobility of this tree species.
In cold rooms and rooms with high humidity, where condensate often falls, it is best to use Karelian or Angora larch. Gentle, pleasant shade from soft beige to light yellow helps to make the room brighter and more visual. Larch is resistant to moisture, but it has one small drawback: during processing, due to the rigidity of the rock, it is very difficult to grind and remove small burrs. Due to the increased thermal insulation properties (about 25% compared to other species), imitation of larch is used for finishing baths, saunas or baths.
Looks good long-fir spruce imitation. But she also has disadvantages. It has a rather low resistance to decay, so it is not quite suitable for use in rooms where it may be wet and requires frequent antifungal treatment.
Larch species for imitation are used much less frequently. To do this, use oak, linden or alder. Although high-quality and durable oak wood is expensive, it will serve its owner for many years. For a bath, you can take a lime imitation, and when finishing children’s rooms it is worth trying a breed such as alder. It has a soft reddish tint, and it is fairly simple to handle. Despite its softness, this breed is very resistant to external influences, abrasion or cracking.
For convenience of calculating the amount of material, it is worthwhile to prepare a detailed plan for the location of each imitation beam. The interior decoration, the photo of which is shown below, was made horizontally, so for accurate calculation it was required to measure the width of the room and know the thickness of one panel. The length of one plate should be approximately equal to the width of the room, so that when finishing there is less waste.
Imitating timber panels can be different in width. This figure can reach 100 cm. But even the narrowest plates visually differ from ordinary lining, creating a unique effect of log masonry. After selecting the material proceed to the interior decoration imitation timber. Photos of some of the steps below.
Helpful advice! Often with a large width of the wall, a vertical line of joints is formed. To prevent this from happening, the panel should be placed in a checkerboard pattern.
If you plan to install imitation indoors, then you should not lay a layer of insulation. Thermal insulation must be outside the room. For finishing your own hands you will need:
- metal profile or bars of 25×25 mm;
- screws or other fasteners;
- vapor barrier film;
- grinding machine with a fine-grained nozzle;
- any means for coating the surface.
Helpful advice! Before starting the lining, the material should be kept for at least 2 days at room temperature. It is necessary that the imitation is not warped and cracked after installation.
Before finishing the walls must be cleaned of dust, dirt, debris. If the installation is done in a wooden house, then they should first be treated with a special antiseptic to avoid the appearance of insects, as well as harmful fungi and mold. After impregnation, 24 hours should pass and the installation of an imitation beam can begin.
First, a vapor barrier is attached to the wall, for this purpose a special construction stapler is used. The film is laid smooth side to the wall. At the same time, heat remains inside the room, and air circulation is not limited. To the concrete or brick wall vapor barrier film is attached with a batten.
If the panels are horizontal, the crate must be mounted vertically, starting from the bottom in increments of 60-70 cm. The step size may vary when using different types of wood. For light pine species, it can be increased to 80 cm, and for heavy ones it should be much smaller. If the mount is made on a wooden wall, then you need to use screws, if the concrete or brick, then fit the dowels. To the walls after finishing were smooth, the crate is performed by level.
In those places where it is planned to put furniture or appliances, it is necessary to provide bars under the cladding for easy fastening to the walls. On the finished crate produce installation imitation. You need to start from the floor, rising to the ceiling. The first panel is exposed by level and fixed with special fasteners, called clamps. If they are not there, screws will do, but it is better to drill them at an angle of 45 °.
To finish the ceiling is recommended to equip the crate with a reduced step. It should be approximately 40-60 cm. Reiki or profile is placed in length from the window. Laying imitation is also better to hold from the outer wall, so the seams are less conspicuous. To finish the ceiling, it is better to use thinner plates and lighter to visually increase the height of the ceilings.
Upon completion of the lining, it must be covered with protective compounds intended for interior work. Then grinding is performed to clean the imitation of excess irregularities and burrs. After that, the surface is primed and coated with paintwork. For a better result, after the varnish has dried, a second layer is applied.
Helpful advice! There are pre-painted panels imitating timber. The price of such products is slightly higher, but you don’t have to mess with paints or varnishes.
