The principle of operation of furnaces on waste oil
Fuel oil has long been used by man as fuel. Being one of the heaviest components of oil, this substance goes not only to fuel, but also to the production of various oils and other liquids of petrochemical production. Like all components of oil, fuel oil and its derivatives have good combustibility with the release of large amounts of heat. Used motor oil must be disposed of using complex technological processes. However, it is possible to get benefit from it by carrying out the combustion in a self-made kiln to work out. The drawing of the simplest version of this design may look like the one shown below.
Used oil is a very complex substance consisting of a mixture of various hydrocarbons. If it is set on fire, only volatile substances will burn out, and everything else will go to waste. And they are very toxic and they are forbidden to throw in a normal landfill. When heated without burning, mining begins to disintegrate into many components, most of which are gaseous. Here they are, with sufficient access of oxygen, burn completely, leaving no harmful substances. In order for such a process to occur, it is necessary to build a furnace for testing. You can do it yourself, for example, from an old gas bottle.
In order to make a garage stove, which will consume used motor oil as fuel, you need to find an old gas cylinder. Before you start cutting it, you need to release all the residual gas and drain the condensate. After that, the cylinder is washed with water to eliminate even the possibility of ignition. To disassemble the cylinder, you need to release gas from it by pressing the valve.
Helpful advice! To make sure that the gas in the cylinder is completely absent, it is necessary to lubricate the valve with liquid soap. It is necessary to press on the valve until the soap solution stops bubbling.
After complete descent of the gas, the valve must be unscrewed. If this cannot be done, then it is necessary to drill a small hole 10 mm in diameter in the bottom of the cylinder. To do this, take the drill and drill in the center of the bottom, without pressing hard, so as not to get a spark. For confidence the place of drilling is constantly poured. The upper part of this chamber is closed with a round steel lid 4 mm thick. It must be easily removed if necessary, since the inner surface of the chamber needs weekly thorough cleaning of slags.
A hole with a diameter of 10 to 15 cm is cut in the middle of the lid. A pipe 50 cm long is welded onto it, in which a set of 10 mm is drilled. holes. The pipe should be thick-walled, not less than 4 mm. In the same lid on the side a hole is made smaller, up to 5 cm in diameter. Insert a small tube with a flap into it. It plays the role of a neck for pouring oil and a choke to control the flow of air into the furnace.
Since, created by own hands, the furnace in working out needs to exhaust smoke without exhausting fire, another chamber is made from the upper part of the cylinder, in which the exhaust gases are cooled before flying into the chimney. Inside this chamber there is a partition that prevents direct fire from entering the exhaust pipe. The hot gases have time to completely burn out in this chamber while bending around this partition.
Helpful advice! The height of the exhaust pipe should be 4 m. This is the optimum size to ensure proper traction. It must be strictly vertical, since any horizontal sections are able to accumulate condensate.
This oven works as follows. Through the hole in the combustion chamber, the used oil is poured into two thirds of its volume. There it is set on fire. When the burning intensifies, the flap is covered. This provides a more economical consumption of oil and its complete burnout. The fractions that did not burn down immediately rise into a perforated pipe when heated, where they come into contact with air, after which they ignite and burn, generating heat in large quantities. Exhaust gases enter the upper chamber, where their final burning out and exhaust into the pipe takes place.

In addition to the simplest method of manufacturing an oil furnace described above, more advanced options are also used. One of them is a capillary furnace for testing. With your own hands, anyone who knows how to handle metal and tools can also make it.
Oil in this design is not just poured into the combustion chamber, where it is in large quantities, and do it gradually by the drip system. This method allows the oil to burn out more efficiently, and its consumption is reduced to a minimum. Separately from the furnace, an oil tank is installed in the upper part, which is connected to the combustion chamber of the furnace by a pipe. An adjusting valve is installed in the branch pipe, with the help of which oil is metered into the firebox. The rest of the design does not differ much from the simplest furnace to work out. Using them, you can not only pump air mass into the combustion chamber, but also remove hot air from the furnace, creating an artificial circulation in the room, which will significantly accelerate the process of heating it to the desired temperature.
