A wide plastic floor plinth is a great masking of an ugly joint between the floor and the wall. Currently, it is not only an element of the interior, but also a functional detail that allows you to hide various wires and cables.

The old wooden plinths of the Soviet times were replaced by comfortable and practical plastic. They have many advantages over their older brothers:

Plastic wide floor baseboards differ in two ways: by type and by height of structure. Manufacturers offer different options for different types of coatings:
- for rooms with carpeting;
- for rooms with laminate flooring;
- universal.
Wide floor plastic plinth for carpet cover is made of a profile having an L-shaped shape. A strip of fabric is inserted into a special groove, which makes it possible to firmly fix the carpet. Some variants of floor moldings have a special adhesive tape in the kit, which firmly holds the coating in its place. Such products can be used for finishing the floor, made of linoleum.
Manufacturers offer another model that has a channel from the front. The bottom edge presses the floor, and a strip of the same material as the carpet is inserted into the available space. This model is more similar to our usual wooden products. It has a slightly extended bottom edge, which is shaped like a standard “boot”. It is possible to use similar wide floor plastic plinths on any finishing covering. If necessary, you can purchase the option not only with one, but also with 2-3 cable channels. The main advantage of this variety is a special soft pad located on the upper edge. It helps the baseboard to more closely fit to the wall and protects the internal space from dust and other debris.
The standard length of this product is 2.5 m. But the thickness and width may be different. On the construction market are models with a thickness of 15-22 mm. The width of the plinth is selected on the basis of the dimensions of the room and the need to find channels for wires in it.
Small rooms with low ceilings are better not to pile up very high up to 15 cm baseboards. For such rooms suitable options with a height of 5-6 cm and preferably, if they are executed in the color of the floor covering or in harmony with the main color of the wallpaper. Whereas for high and spacious rooms, wide models with several cable channels are suitable.

- outside corners;
- other connecting elements.
Pruning and assembly of plinths is carried out, so to speak, “dry.” All parts are measured, assembled, fitted to the wall, and only then fixed. If during installation screws are used as fasteners, then experts advise corner elements and plugs to additionally coat them with superglue to prevent them from falling out of the structure.

In addition to plastic for the manufacture of baseboards manufacturers can use a variety of materials. Not bad proven products from:

- polyurethane;
- wood
Modern slats, closing the junction between the wall and the floor, made of wood, are significantly different from their counterparts who lived in the Soviet era. More interesting streamlined shape, a small thickness allow the use of similar products in various interiors.

The strongest of the wide floor wooden baseboards are made of oak, hornbeam or maple. Products from soft conifers have an interesting texture, color and are easily processed.
MDF is a glued and compressed cellulose fiber. Floor moldings of such material are distinguished by a large variety of colors and textures. Manufacturers are ready to offer a wide floor MDF baseboards under wood, stone or even leather. If you don’t manage to choose the right option from a huge variety, you can stop at the usual white plinth, which is later painted to match the interior color.
A wide floor polyurethane baseboard also has a number of advantages. Environmentally friendly and fairly easy to maintain, it is resistant to various deformations. It does not lose its shape over time, so it can easily be used in rooms with high humidity.
Polyurethane products look pretty neat, withstand strong mechanical stress. Perfectly hide defects and irregularities of the walls, due to the flexibility and elasticity. Installation of such a floor profile is made strictly on a special glue.
