Screen on the heating battery: protective and decorative element in the room

Most of the owners of the apartments are owners of the old-style heating batteries, which perfectly cope with their function, but have an unpresentable appearance. The screen on the radiator will help solve the problem, which will not only hide an unsightly radiator from your eyes, but will also become an important part of the room’s interior and at the same time perform a protective function for the room owners.

Why do you need a screen for a battery of heating

An integral attribute of the heating system are radiators. The principle of their work is based on the radiation of thermal energy, which is transmitted to the room in two ways:

  • through convection, which involves air exchange of the cold coming from the bottom and the hot flow going up;

  • with the help of electromagnetic radiation of the infrared spectrum, the power of which increases with increasing temperature of the radiator.

The air from the cast iron radiators is heated through convection processes. With an increase in the intensity of heating, a change in the ratio of radiant and convection energy occurs, and significant heat release begins to be effected by means of infrared radiation.

Despite the fact that radiators are an integral part of a room, they often have an unattractive appearance and a traumatic structure for others. To solve these problems, you can use the lining on the battery.

The grille serves several functions:

  • protective;
  • decorative;

  • hygienic;
  • reflecting.

Often, the design of heating radiators is represented by protruding parts, sharp corners and regulating valves. All this is especially dangerous for young children. Also, the high temperature of the heating device can cause burns. You can hide a potential source of trouble with a security grill. On the other hand, many modern batteries, for example, aluminum or copper plate radiators, also need protection from all sorts of mechanical effects, since the design can easily be deformed as a result of the fall of the object.

Most of the radiators, especially the old model, do not fit into the modern interior space. Due to the presence of a decorative grille for the battery, the heating device will acquire a more attractive appearance. The design of the radiator is very inconvenient to clean. In the cavities and hard-to-reach places accumulate small debris, dust, pet hair. The grille on the radiator will help reduce the likelihood of dirt and dust in its cavity.

If the screen has a sufficient number of holes and cut-outs, which must be properly positioned, have a back wall of polished metal, it is possible to increase the convection of the heater by reflecting infrared radiation from the wall in the room.

Important! To ensure that the screen for the radiator provides the maximum supply of warm air from the heater, its design must be of a lattice type, without an upper cover and with a sufficient gap at the bottom of the battery.

Despite the fact that the screen radiator has a number of positive characteristics, it has one major drawback. The grille is able to absorb some of the heat that comes from the radiator, thus making its work less efficient. However, with the right choice of the form and material of the product, it is possible to significantly reduce heat loss when installing the screen.

Depending on the shape of the structure and the type of mounting, the grille can be:

  • hinged without top cover;
  • hinged with lid;
  • flat;
  • in the form of boxes.

The first option is used for batteries that are located in a niche. Such designs do not need special installation and provide the maximum process of heat exchange of air in the room. The second type is installed mainly on the radiator heating protruding from under the window sill. The cast iron battery screen allows the heater to give a more aesthetic appearance, but reduces the amount of heat transferred.

Flat products are attached to the wall, closing only the front side of the radiator. The top, bottom and sides remain open. If you need to completely hide the radiator, you should use the screen in the form of a box that can be mounted to the wall or be placed outdoor.

The price of the screen for the heating battery depends on the material of manufacture. Depending on this lattice can be:

  • metal;
  • plastic;
  • wooden;
  • glass;
  • from MDF.

The screen can be mounted in one of the following ways:

  • tie-in method;
  • mounted way;
  • boxing method;
  • in an additional way.

If heating radiators are recessed into pre-prepared niches in the wall, which saves space, it is necessary to use mortise grilles. The element is fixed in front of the battery in such a way as to create a small gap on the side walls. The size of the product is chosen so that the niche can be blocked around the perimeter.

Thanks to a wide range of decorative grilles for heating radiators, you can choose the most suitable option, which not only becomes the perfect complement to the interior, but also decorates the battery and becomes a reliable protection from possible injuries. Also, when choosing a product should be guided not only by aesthetic considerations, but also give preference to the design, which should not degrade the heating characteristics of the device.
